SUMMARY:Innovators' Club: Does purpose fuel innovation?
DESCRIPTION:Does purpose fuel innovation? \nStudies suggest that having a purpose is key for a company’s performance. But what are the driving forces behind innovation? \nDuring our next Innovators’ Club\, we invite you to discuss with us which role purpose plays in working on innovation and research projects: \n– Isn’t having a purpose more applicable for NGO’s than private companies?\n– Is purpose the (only) starting point to innovate?\n– Would anything change if there was no purpose? \nJoin us in this interactive session and let´s discuss together while our experts Dr. Endora Comer-Arldt\, Michael Schaberger and Dr. David Downey frame the debate with their theses and provide insights on how we address innovation at Merck. \nWe are curious to get to know your opinion!

SUMMARY:Innovator's Club at Merck Innovation Center in Darmstadt
DESCRIPTION:Innovators’ Club: Leapfrogging ahead in Artificial Intelligence \nA child can recognize an animal species after being exposed to the correct associations a few times. The best artificial intelligence (AI) systems might need to ‘see’ thousands of images to achieve the same level of accuracy. So\, despite decades of development and a lot of hype around AI and machine learning\, even the best technologies can’t perceive the world as humans do – yet. \nTo make faster progress in this fascinating field will require radical innovation. “Leapfrogging” (jumping) ahead of current approaches by rethinking AI is the topic of our next Innovators’ Club at the Innovation Center in Darmstadt. \nJoin Merck’s Global Head of Data Science & Analytics\, Helmut Linde\, as he outlines a new\, exciting vision for the future of AI. Then\, network with like-minded individuals and discover how you can work with Merck to shape that future. \nSome of the areas Helmut Linde will cover include: \n•A summary of the current state of play in AI developments\n•How our brains create reliable representations of objects\, from animals to rocks\, even when they are perceived in many different ways in the real world\n•How we can use our current and future understanding of how the brain works to create the next generation of algorithms for AI\n•Results from an early but very promising AI algorithm proof of concept \nAI is likely to turn out as the technology that will have the biggest impact on humanity in all of history. This Innovators’ Club is open to anyone interested in the future of Artificial Intelligence and what it means for Merck’s business. In particular\, the session will be highly relevant for students\, academics and members of research organizations in the fields of mathematics\, physics\, computer science\, and neuroscience.

SUMMARY:Innovators‘ Club: Radical Transformation
DESCRIPTION:Innovators’ Club: Radical Transformation – From Caveman to Agile in less than a decade \nFrom an evolutionary perspective\, humanity is still a very young species. And yet\, we have developed complex technologies and systems that are transforming our world at an exponential rate. Unfortunately\, our brains aren’t evolving at the same pace! The nature of the challenges and opportunities created by this cognitive gap is the topic of our next Innovators’ Club at the Innovation Center in Darmstadt. \nJoin neuroscientist\, agile coach\, and management consultant Dr. Arndt Pechstein as he takes us on a journey of behavioral change\, human potential\, and exponential thinking. His interactive session will be a deep-dive into the world of science\, innovation and cultural change; and an enthusiastic call for humanism\, company culture\, and a 21st-century mindset. \nSome of the questions Dr. Pechstein will address include: \nWhy are our brains hard-wired to resist change?\nHow can we overcome this and adapt?\nHow do we build for self-organization and resilience?\nWhat are the best ways to grow and scale ideas? \nThis session promises to be one of the most thought-provoking Innovators’ Clubs ever – making it the perfect way to start the new year. We look forward to welcoming you at the Innovation Center!
