Last week the first edition of Unicorn Battle took place in Frankfurt. The aim of Unicorn CUP is to discover promising  and investment attractive startups.  Unicorn Battle is an event format  held in over 50 cities worldwide with FINALS in Silicon Valley each quarter. It is organized by Startup Network – an International platform for venture capital market participants.

There are 10+ Startups, 30+ investors and 100-200 guests participating in each Unicorn Battle. Each pitch event features local startups and guest startups from other cities to ensure integration with other ecosystems.

Congratulations to the three winners:

1) Byprotex, from Bavaria is the first digital marketplace focused on trading animal by-products, plant-based products as well as dairy products. Founder Lubos Cechvala resumes that ‘the prize is a great recognition of our idea and efforts, especially when considering the strength of the other startups there. Some of them had really good ideas and business models. Hence this prize gives us confidence that we can suceed in a touch competition.’

2) LuBu (LunchBuddies), from Frankfurt is an intelligent B2B Matching App that connects people for coffee and lunch in an easier, faster, more fun and flexible way – and works completely without texting. ‘To me, the Unicorn Battle event has been a real success. Having had the opportunity to pitch LuBu to the expert jury and winning the second place is one reason for that. Especially after our recent progress and some busy months of piloting our app, that meant a lot to us. Exchanging thoughts and ideas with so many different people from the ecosystem and getting to know someone new and their perspectives on things is always a huge win and super valuable for me, personally and of course for LuBu’, explains Luisa El Bouyahyani, Co-Founder at LuBu.

3) Knowledge 42, based at Merck Innovation Center Darmstadt,  which provides organizations a holistic technology view defined by machine learning validated by expert communities to enable strategic innovations.

The main prize for the startup is the opportunity to pitch at the Unicorn Cup Finals (San Francisco) among TOP-50 best startups from all over the world – winners of Unicorn Battles preliminaries. Over 500+ investors such as SoftBank, Index Ventures, Founders Fund, Y-combbinator, 500 Startups and famous Family offices in CA are expected in San Francisco.

The event relies on a strong local network in each city. In Frankfurt Unicorn Battle was supported by multiple local sponsors, jury members and information partners, especially:
